Rising Stars Speech and Debate is a unique virtual debate program that will teach your child the fundamental skills needed for public speaking and debate. Our tutors will work with your child to teach them skills such as projection, hand gestures, persuasion, and more, as well as teach them how to build and present an argument. Rising Stars Speech and Debate programming is the perfect way to give your child essential skills that they will use throughout their entire lives. From class presentations to college interviews to office presentations, your child will utilize what they have learned to be able to communicate clearly and effectively. WHY RISING STARS?
SMALL CLASS SIZE
Our small class size of no more than ten students and 7 to 1 student to tutor ratio allows our tutors to give your child the space to practice speaking in front of small groups comfortably, while still allowing us to give your child personalized attention.

OUR CLASSES
Grades 3-5 Public Speaking and Debate
For our slightly older students, the 3-5 program includes a review of the basic public speaking skills, and features an introduction to debate. Students will learn how to formulate and structure an argument, and engage in short debates with their peers.

Grades 6-8 Debate
For our oldest students, the 6-8 program teaches students the fundamentals of middle and high school debate. Students will learn the structure of a debate round, how to prep arguments in advance, and debate skills such as crossfire and rebuttal.

CYNTHIA TAN
Cynthia is a rising junior at Stuyvesant High School. She has been a Nationally Ranked Debater for three years, attending some of the most prestigious tournaments in the country, including those at Harvard University, Columbia University, Yale University, and more. She regularly debates high-intensity rounds against some of the best teams in the nation. She has qualified for State Championships multiple times throughout her debate career. She currently serves as Class President at Stuyvesant’s Student Union. She has three years of both private and group tutoring in Math and ELA. She also regularly volunteers to coach and judge students from Kindergarten to 8th grade in public speaking/debate.
